Following initiatives by the Honorary President of the Automobile Club de Monaco, H.S.H. Prince Albert II, the principality has been making a concerted move in the direction of ecology and new forms of energy.

The Automobile Club de Monaco is preparing the future and contributes to the evolution in sport and the automotive industry by incorporating elements of sustainable development in the events it organizes.

Since its creation, the Automobile Club de Monaco is a leader in innovation :
- 1911 : 1st Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo,
- 1929 : 1st Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix,
- 1995 : 1st Rallye Monte-Carlo Electrique,
- 2007 : 1st Monte Carlo Rally for Alternative Energy Vehicles.

The 3rd Monte Carlo Rally for Alternative Energy Vehicles will be held from 26th to 29th March 2009. It meets the criteria for the Worldgreen Sports label developed by Worldsports Events, mainly thanks to the participation of electric, hybrid electric and alternative energy vehicles, but also by taking into account the environment in its organization. The president of the Automobile Club de Monaco Michel Boeri comments : “Motor sport began its evolution. The Automobile Club de Monaco contributes, thanks to its experience, to lead the way. The Monte Carlo Rally for Alternative Energy Vehicles is a unique opportunity to test in real conditions and on the road the latest innovations”.

The President & CEO of Worlsports Events Jacques Behar points out : “The association of the Worldgreen Sports label with a leader event is a first. Other events will follow this example by organizing themselves to better take into account the environmental dimension”. The presentation of the Rally and the best videos will be broadcasted on www.worldsports-events.com and on www.acm.mc.

The Albert II Foundation, established at the initiative of the Sovereign Prince supports all activities related to renewable energy and sustainable development and, as such, is a partner of the Monte Carlo Rally for Alternative Energy Vehicles.
