Caractéristiques.
Commercialisation envisageable en 2010. Extraits du communiqué original en anglais LONDON - PSA Peugeot Citroën’s Efficient-C prototype, just unveiled, has an ultralow-carbon-emission powertrain that is 30 percent more economical and cleaner than a standard diesel. Three years ago the British government challenged the auto industry to develop a practical and affordable family car with ultralow carbon emissions. Today the car that met the challenge was unveiled in central London. The car, a version of the small Citroën Berlingo MPV, was developed by PSA Peugeot Citroën in partnership with U.K.-based technology providers Ricardo and QinetiQ under the banner Efficient-C. It meets the U.K. Department for Transport’s Ultra Low Carbon Car Challenge criteria, emitting just 99 grams per km of CO2, based on a fully featured car.
The powertrain is a Peugeot-Citroën 1.6-liter HDi, turbodiesel with a compact electric motor mounted between the engine and the transmission, providing electrical torque assist, efficient electrical power generation, regenerative braking and full electric vehicle (zero emissions) operation at low speed. It has a five-speed automated manual transmission and an advanced 288-volt lithium-ion battery pack adapted from those used in defense-industry applications, which is QinetiQ’s main line of business. Robert Peugeot, PSA’s quality and innovation director, said the job now is to make the technology cheap enough for mass production. He said PSA intends to have a diesel-electric hybrid in its range by 2010, calling this technology a genuine improvement over gasoline hybrids, which he said are "no more economical than diesels."
